Average

  • Restoration Shaman is a solid choice for dungeons because of their very strong healing cooldowns which is great as a lot of dungeons require high throughput in short periods of time.
  • In addition Restoration Shamans also have the most utility out of any healer, with a multitude of utility totems and the shortest interrupt cooldown in the game which is Wind Shear.
  • Furthermore, surviving lethal mechanics is a breeze when you have a raid cooldown like Spirit Link Totem combined with Ancestral Vigor.
  • Despite these strengths Restoration Shamans struggle with mobility and the need for totem placement. To maximize the effectiveness of totems you must plan ahead.

Talents

Patch 11.0 - The War Within

Restoration Shaman

When to use this Spec

This is the default loadout going into any dungeon as it specializes in survivability. You have to adjust the class talent tree based on the utility needed for the affix and dungeon combo. To make your life easier, Dungeon specific talent loadouts are available in the Dungeons section.

Gameplay Altering Talents

Discover all talents that significantly alter your gameplay within the Spec and Class Talent trees. This section gives a concise overview of these talents and their applications but for a more detailed look check out the Rotation and Deep Dive sections below.

Spec Tree

  • Water Totem Mastery
    • Consuming Tidal Waves has a chance to give you cooldown reduction on the majority of your totems. With that known, don't let any Tidal Waves go to waste.
  • Ancestral Reach
    • Strong boost to your AoE healing.
  • High Tide
    • Spending enough mana gives you 2 enhanced Chain Heals, try to combine these with Tidebringer.
  • Tidebringer
    • Every 8 sec, your next Chain Heal jump distance is increased by 100%, and stacks up to 2 charges. This allows you to save up the charges when you know a crucial moment is coming up.
  • Echo of the Elements
    • Riptide and Lava Burst have an additional charge.
    • Great synergy with Water Totem Mastery to gain more Tidal Waves and therefore more cooldown reduction.
  • Acid Rain
    • Your Healing Rain now deals moderate damage, make sure to place it on as many enemies as you can, up to 5 targets!
  • Downpour
    • After every Healing Rain you receive 1 use of Downpour which heals and increases maximum health by 10% to 5 allies within Healing Rain.
  • Earthen Harmony
    • This talent makes Earth Shield a lot stronger and you need to make sure you make use of both Earth Shield, thanks to Elemental Orbit.
  • Reactive Warding
    • When refreshing Earth Shield, your target is healed for each stack of Earth Shield they are missing.
    • When refreshing Water Shield, you are refunded mana for each stack of Water Shield missing.
  • Master of the Elements
    • Healing Surge applies Flame Shock to a nearby enemy when empowered by Master of the Elements, making it easy to maintain multiple Flame Shock.
    • Casting Lava Burst also increases the healing done from Healing Surge by 30%, stacking up to 2 times.

Class Tree

  • Elemental Orbit
    • You can have Earth Shield on yourself and one ally simultaneously. This allows you to focus more on raid healing and sustain yourself with passive healing.
  • Nature's Guardian
    • When your health is brought below 35%, you instantly heal for 20% of your maximum health, which cannot occur more than once every 45 seconds.
  • Totemic Focus
    • Increases the radius and duration of your totems which gives you an easier time managing totem positioning whenever there's movement.
  • Totemic Surge
    • Reduces the cooldown of your totems by 6 seconds.

Rotation

Patch 11.0 - The War Within

Restoration Shaman

Tier Set

  • (2pc): Chain Heal, Healing Surge, and Healing Wave mark their initial target with a Tidal Reservoir, causing them to receive 15% of all Riptide healing you deal for 15 seconds.
  • (4pc): Riptide's healing is increased by 25%. If Riptide is active on the same target as Tidal Reservoir, its heal over time effect has a 6% chance to create a new Riptide on a nearby ally.

This set further emphasizes using Riptide on cooldown as much as possible and also applying Tidal Reservoir to all targets affected by Riptide to have the highest possible chance to get new Riptides procs.

Priority List

For Healing

  1. Cast High Tide buffed Chain Heals if 3+ allies require healing.
  2. Cast Riptide on cooldown
  3. CastPrimordial Wave on a target without Riptide.
  4. Cast Healing Wave when you have Primordial Wave buff.
  5. CastCloudburst Totem to avoid overcapping on charges.
  6. Cast Healing Rain on cooldown.
  7. Cast Unleash Life on cooldown.
  8. Consume Unleash Life on Chain Heal if High Tide is active, otherwise Healing Rain.
  9. Cast Mana Tide Totem if talented into Spiritwalker's Tidal Totem.
  10. Cast Chain Heal if 3+ allies are missing health.
  11. Cast Healing Wave.
  12. Refresh Earth Shield.

For Damage

  1. Maintain Healing Rain if talented into Acid Rain.
  2. Cast Chain Lightning if there are 2+ enemies.
  3. Maintain Flame Shock.
  4. Cast Lava Burst.
  5. Cast Lightning Bolt.

Cooldowns

Primordial Wave

  • Primordial Wave is a short cooldown spell (45 seconds) but provides quite a bit of extra healing to your party as long as you have Riptide HoT on your allies. Make sure you combine Primordial Wave with Cloudburst Totem, as the extra healing provided transfers to your Cloudburst Totem.

Cloudburst Totem

  • This totem accumulates a portion of your healing while it's up and should nearly always be used on cooldown unless you need to delay its use for specific timing or a damage event.
  • You can read more about Cloudburst Totem in the Deep dive section below.

Ascendance

  • Use Ascendance when your party is dying as it's your strongest healing cooldown.
  • Can be combined with Ancestral Guidance and Cloudburst Totem.

Healing Tide Totem

  • This totem is one of your baseline throughput cooldowns and it heals all allies within 40 yards. It's a great cooldown to use when your globals are tight and the HPS requirements are high, or during heavy movement.

Spirit Link Totem

  • This totem is one of the most unique and flexible cooldowns in the game with the power to redistribute your allies' health to have the same percentage of maximum health every second. It also grants your allies a 15% damage reduction for whoever is within the radius.
  • Spirit Link Totem is an extremely powerful cooldown to counter overwhelming damage on your party and also has great synergy with Darkness.

Mana Tide Totem

  • Mana Tide Totem provides you and your allies with an 80% increased mana regeneration for a short period.
  • The radius of Mana Tide Totem is also small, so make sure to use it close to your allies.

Patch 11.0 - The War Within

Restoration Shaman

Min maxing Deluge

  • Deluge is one of your early Restoration talents and is crucial to consider when you need that extra throughput. Placing a good Healing Rain can save you from spending more globals than necessary while maintaining high uptime of Deluge.

Min maxing Tidal Waves

  • While Tidal Waves is almost always up due to Riptide being a short cooldown spell, it is important to ensure you have Tidal Waves active before a lethal damage event. It buffs your next Healing Wave, Chain Heal or Healing Surge.

Min maxing Cloudburst

  • Cloudburst is one of your strongest tools. Being able to make full use of Cloudburst is extremely important and greatly improves any throughput issues you might encounter.
  • Before you place Cloudburst, there are a few things you can prepare. Spread out Riptide, placing down Healing Rain, and casting Primordial Wave right before Cloudburst. This allows you to quickly accumulate a lot of healing with Healing Wave.
  • Your Cloudburst also interacts with Ascendance and Ancestral Guidance. Both abilities are extremely powerful and can be combined, but in most cases, that won't be necessary. Any extra healing provided by either ability is transferred to your Cloudburst.

Understanding Mechanics

Rotational min-maxing is just one aspect of mastering a specialization, but there are numerous other key mechanics that influence your performance. Use the following guides to improve them.

  • Pandemic
  • Spell Queue Window
  • Stat Diminishing Returns

Boss Tips

Vexamus

  • General Tips
    • Whenever no Mana Bomb is active. always prioritize casting Purify Spirit on cooldown.
  • Output Cds
    • Use Cloudburst as often as possible on each set of Mana Bomb. Make sure to use Cloudburst shortly before Mana Bomb so you have stored healing ready to fully heal your allies before Mana Bomb detonation.
    • You can use Totemic Recall after using Cloudburst to reset the cooldown of Cloudburst, allowing you to cover more sets of Mana Bomb.
    • Make sure to alternate Ascendance and Ancestral Guidance early in the fight. They come off cooldown towards the end of the fight when your mana might be low.
  • Personal/External
    • Whenever you are targeted by a Mana Bomb, make sure that you have Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active. Additionally, use either Astral Shift, Choker of Shielding, one of your trinkets or Earth Elemental each time.
    • Do not hesitate to use Spirit Link Totem at any point to provide an additional 10% damage reduction. Just make sure to use it together with the Mana Bomb spawns so it covers the debuff duration and, most importantly, the last explosion tick.
    • Whichever option is chosen, you should decide preemptively; otherwise, this mechanic is a struggle every time.

Overgrown Ancient

  • General Tips
    • Always prioritize dispelling your tank on cooldown with Poison Cleansing Totem!
  • Output Cds
    • Ensure that you are utilizing Cloudburst for each DoT phase, as shown on the timeline above.
  • Personal/External
    • Ensure that you have Earth Shield on yourself and Ancestral Vigor active on your party each Burst Forth, otherwise follow the timeline above.
    • You can use Spirit Link Totem for the extra 10% DR for your team right before Burst Forth.

Crawth

  • Output Cds
    • Keep Earth Shield on your tank at all times. When Savage Peck happens, make sure you have Cloudburst down and use your healing abilities to heal the Savage Peck DoT. If your key level is not too high, the tank can likely survive on their own. In that case, just DPS the boss.
  • Personal/External
    • You can survive the first 3 Deafening Screech as long as you keep Ancestral Vigor, Earth Shield, and Spirit Wolf active. You have to preemptively go into Ghost Wolf to get enough stacks before Deafening Screech.
    • On +4 you still do the above but additionally use Astral Shift or any other defensive on-use trinkets.

Echo of Doragosa

  • Output Cds
    • There is very little to heal on this boss, so just use your cooldowns to quickly heal anyone with Energy Bomb and continue damaging the boss.
  • Personal/External
    • Use one of your defensives every time you have Energy Bomb.
    • Don't forget to apply Ancestral Vigor to anyone with Energy Bomb.

Trash Tips

  • Output Cds
    • Ensure you place Healing Rain around the trash your fighting due to Acid Rain
  • Personal/External
    • Preemptively use defensive cooldowns when in combat with Aggravated Skitterflys or Arcane Foragers since they jump and damage random people in combat with them. While initially it does not seem required, you can prevent an unlucky case of being focused by multiple adds at the same time.
    • When you get hit by Spectral Invokers Arcane Missiles you should use a strong defensive as well in case your group runs out of stops!
  • Utility
    • Use Wind Rush Totem during boss fights and in places where you can't mount. Every second matters and your party always appreciates the extra movement speed.
    • This dungeon has many very deadly casts on the group so make sure to utilize your Thunderstorm and Capacitor Totem to the best of your ability:
      • Corrupted Manafiend Surge and Mana Void.
      • Spellbound Scepter Mystic Blast big AoE cast needs to be stopped.
      • Unruly Textbook Monotonous Lecture.
      • Spectral Invoker Arcane Missiles

Boss Tips

Hackclaw's War-Band

  • General Tips
    • Always dispel your tank as the highest priority.
    • Purge the boss if Greater Healing Rapids goes off.
  • Output Cds
    • Use either Ancestral Guidance or Ascendance to counter the Gash Frenzy DoT as soon as possible.
    • Don't forget to have Cloudburst ready for each Gash Frenzy set.
  • Personal/External
    • Use Astral Shift on Gash Frenzy. Also, make sure to have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active.

Treemouth

  • General Tips
    • Ensure to utilize Capacitor Totem and Thunderstorm to control the slimes that spawn from Decay Spray
  • Output Cds
    • Use your cooldowns to heal the target that's affected by Grasping Vines.
    • Maximize your damage output here, as there is nothing to heal apart from Grasping Vines.
  • Personal/External
    • Use Spirit Link as needed to deal with Grasping Vines.

Gutshot

  • General Tips
    • This boss does no damage to the group, so focus on dealing damage and helping with the Hyenas using abilities such as Earthgrab or Earthbind Totem.
  • Personal/External
    • No planned uses, use your abilities freely if things go wrong.

Decatriach Wratheye

  • Output Cds
    • You won't need to use your healing cooldowns on this fight so focus on providing damage to the boss and the Rotburst Totem
    • If the cast from Rotburst Totem goes through, be ready to press all your cooldowns to keep your party alive.
  • Personal/External
    • Have both Earth Shield and Ancestral Vigor active for Withered Eruption, and rotate Astral Shift with one of your defensive trinkets in very high keys.
    • Do not hesitate to use Spirit Link Totem for Decaystrike to instantly help your tank and allow you to continue damaging the boss or Rotburst Totem.

Trash Tips

  • Output Cds
    • Have your group use personal defensive abilities while fighting Bonebolt Hunters if your output cooldowns are unavailable.
    • If your Group is not able to stand on the avoid spots while fighting Wilted Oaks your party takes heavy, nearly unhealable damage. So make sure to use your entire defensive spell book here, because the upcoming Boss Treemouth does not require any.
  • Personal/External
    • When you have Bleeding make sure to press at least one of your bigger defensives.
  • Utility
    • Use Wind Rush Totem during boss fights and in places where you can't mount. Every second matters and your party always appreciates the extra movement speed.
    • Most of the enemies in this dungeon start to run away at low health. Using Earthgrab or Earthbind Totem could be crucial in some situations to prevent enemies from running into other packs.
    • Use Thunderstorm to stop Summon Lashers from Decayed Elders, this significantly reduces the damage your group takes.
    • Stop Vicious Clawmangle from Claw Fighters with any of your available stops.

Boss Tips

Watcher Irideus

  • Output Cds
    • Ensure to always have an output cooldown ready together with Cloudburst Totem for Static Surge. Don't forget to use Cloudburst Totem again to explode it early if someone in your party drops to very low health.
    • Use Totemic Recall to gain a charge of Cloudburst Totem if you fall behind or don't have a charge ready for the next Static Surge.
  • Personal/External
    • Always ask for personal cooldowns for Static Surge because, at higher key levels, survival is not possible with healing alone.
    • Ensure to have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active during Static Surge.
    • Use a Potion of Withering Dreams or a Healthstone as defensives in this fight, and plan ahead.
    • Heal the Power Overload debuffs, and provide your party with Wind Rush Totem, allowing you to make it out of the void zone together once the debuffs expire.

Gulping Goliath

  • Output Cds
    • Use your Ascendance or Ancestral Guidance for Toxic Effluvia, as this event is survivable by just healing through it, even at the highest key levels.
    • Use your Cloudburst Totem for these damage events.
    • Use your Poison Cleansing Totem to get rid of any Gulp Swog Toxin, which instantly kills you at 10 stacks.
  • Personal/External
    • Split up your defensive arsenal to counter Overpowering Croak, communicate this with your group beforehand as one personal might not be enough on the highest key levels.
    • Ensure to have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active for Overpowering Croak.
    • Ensure to have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active for Toxic Effluvia.

Khajin the Unyielding

  • Output Cds
    • Spread out your use of Ascendance, Ancestral Guidance and Healing Tide Totem throughout this fight to ensure a constant stream of high HPS. Maintaining healing output is the biggest challenge in this encounter.
    • Cloudburst Totem is useful here to keep your allies alive, and it is also very efficient for your mana.
    • Use your Mana Tide Totem early, as doing so allows you to get it back later in the fight if it goes long enough, resulting in more mana overall throughout the entire fight.
  • Personal/External
    • You want to keep Earth Shield active at all times. In this fight, you can put it on yourself and the weakest DPS player, as the tank can survive the damage on their own.
    • Don't worry about Ancestral Vigor, as this is active on everyone thanks to the intensity of this fight and is applied from Chain Heal. Your bigger defensives should be used when dodging Glacial Surge or moving to hide from a Hailstorm.
    • Do not hesitate to use either a Healthstone or a Potion of Withering Dreams.

Primal Tsunami

  • Output Cds
    • Maximize your damage output.
    • You can use Healing Tide Totem after Tempest's Fury, slowly healing your party to full and also allowing you to damage the boss at the same time.
  • Personal/External
    • Ensure to have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active for Tempest's Fury. Additionally, you need to use either Astral Shift or one of your defensive on-use trinkets every time.
    • Do not hesitate to use either a Healthstone or a Potion of Withering Dreams if you are not at 100% HP before Tempest's Fury.

Trash Tips

  • Output Cds
    • Plan ahead for multiple sets of Deep Chill from the Glacial Proto-Dragons. If someone won't be able to remove it, you need to have an output cooldown ready to heal through the debuff.
  • Personal Cd Usage
    • Always press one of your personals when targeted by Containment Beam.
    • While fighting Shocktroopers, use a defensive cooldown when you lose health, as Lightning Blast might execute you.
  • Utility Usage
    • Use Poison Cleansing Totem when fighting frogs, as Gulp Swog Toxin becomes instant death at 10 stacks.
    • Use Wind Rush Totem during boss fights and in places where you can't mount. Every second matters and your party always appreciates the extra movement speed.
    • There are some more general stops that are good to keep an eye on:
      • Refti Defender Demoralizing Shout.
      • Primalist Shocktrooper Elemental Focus.
      • Primalist Galesinger Thunderstrike.

Boss Tips

Chargath, Bane of Scales

  • Output Cds
    • Use your Ancestral Guidance or Ascendance when your group breaks its chains, as this is the deadliest moment of the encounter.
    • Use Cloudburst Totem together with your healing cooldowns.
  • Personal/External
    • If your group does not have a bleed removal for Dragon Strike, have someone tanky bait it by being the furthest player from the boss.
    • Rotate between Astral Shift and your defensive on-use items when the boss casts Grounding Spear.
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active when your group is breaking the chains.

Forgemaster Gorek

  • Output Cds
    • Use your Ancestral Guidance or Ascendance when Might of the Forge is happening to heal the initial damage and the subsequent Blazing Aegis DoT.
    • A great way to play this fight is to cover Might of the Forge with your healing cooldowns and then let your Cloudburst Totem heal most of the Blazing Aegis DoT.
  • Personal/External
    • Ensure that you have a defensive up as Might of the Forge is about to happen, as the initial hit might kill you.
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active when the boss is about to cast Might of the Forge.
    • Do not hesitate to use either a Healthstone or a Potion of Withering Dreams.

Magmatusk

  • Output Cds
    • Use your Ancestral Guidance or Ascendance together with Cloudburst Totem when Magma Eruption DoT is up.
    • Use Healing Tide Totem if you are required to move during Magma Eruption DoT.
  • Personal/External
    • Rotate through your defensives to reduce the initial hit of Magma Eruption every time.
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active when Magma Eruption is about to happen.
    • You have to use a personal defensive when you are targeted by Lava Spray while also having the Magma Eruption DoT, as this is a lethal combination.

Warlord Sargha

  • Output Cds
    • Use your Ancestral Guidance or Ascendance when the boss is about to cast Magma Shield.
  • Personal/External
    • Rotate through defensives when you get Molten Gold.
    • Heal anyone receiving the Molten Gold debuff. You can preemptively use your 2nd Earth Shield on the target for 6% damage reduction and 20% increased healing taken from you.
    • Use your Purify Spirit whenever someone has the curse debuff.

Trash Tips

  • Output Cds
    • When fighting Apex Blazewings, make sure to plan ahead and have one of your output cooldowns ready for Candescent Tempest. If you don't, ask for personal defensives.
  • Personal/External
    • When you get the bleed of Bold Ambush while fighting Qalashi Hunters make sure to rotate through your defensive arsenal.
    • When a Qalashi Blacksmith is casting Forgestomp, and you are not topped off or are simultaneously fighting mobs that do group damage, use a defensive cooldown.
  • Utility
    • Use Wind Rush Totem during boss fights and in places where you can't mount. Every second matters and your party always appreciates the extra movement speed
    • Keep an eye out for Qalashi Bonesplitter's Dragonbone Axe & Pierce Marrow and disrupt them with your available toolkit.

Boss Tips

Melidrussa Chillworn

  • General Tips
    • Always cast Purify Spirit on your Tank when he has multiple stacks of Primal Chill. It can not never reach 10 stacks.
  • Output Cds
    • Use Ascendance, Ancestral Guidance and Healing Tide Totem separately from each other to handle as many Chillstorm and Frost Overload as possible.
    • It is very important to have Cloudburst Totem for every Chillstorm. Make sure to have your Cloudburst Totem explode before the last Chillstorm tick, so your team is at full health before the final explosion.
  • Personal/External
    • Rotate through your defensive arsenal for every Chillstorm, regardless of whether you are the target or not. On the highest keys, you might also need to use one during the intermission.
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active when a Chillstorm is about to explode.
    • Do not hesitate to use either a Healthstone or a Potion of Withering Dreams if you are not at high health before Chillstorm explodes.

Kokia Blazehoof

  • Output Cds
    • Rotate through your healing cooldowns to heal through every Inferno.
  • Personal/External
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active when an Elemental is about to finish its Inferno cast.
    • Rotate through Astral Shift and your on-use defensive items to survive Inferno lethal initial hit.
    • Your tank might need your Spirit Link Totem for Searing Blows, which is one of the most challenging tank mechanics this season. This is especially important if your group lacks an Evoker for bleed removal or if your tank is not a Dwarf.

Kyrakka and Erkhart Stormvein

  • Output Cds
    • In Phase One, you won't need any healing cooldowns, so make sure to maximize your damage output.
    • In Phase Two, use Ascendance,Ancestral Guidance and Healing Tide Totem separately on different sets of Flamespit, as it now affects multiple people.
  • Personal/External
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active when you are the target of Flamespit.
    • Rotate through Astral Shift and your on-use defensive trinkets whenever you are targeted by Flamespit.
    • Do not hesitate to use either a Healthstone or a Potion of Withering Dreams when there is a potential overlap of Interrupting Cloudburst and Flamespit.

Trash Tips

  • Output Cds
    • Plan ahead for each Blazebound Destroyer in the area before the second boss, as you need a cooldown for each Inferno cast.
    • When fighting Flamegullet, make sure to use your cooldowns after it hits 50% HP because Molten Blood starts dealing damage at that point.
    • While fighting a Tempest Channeler or High Channeler Ryvati in the third boss area, ensure that your group is stacking within your Healing Rain and in the radius of your Spirit Link Totem.
  • Personal/External
    • Plan ahead for each Blazebound Destroyer in the area before the second boss, as your group always has to press a defensive on each Inferno.
    • When fighting Thunderhead, make sure to dispel Rolling Thunder as soon as possible. The explosion damage is easily mitigated by defensives, while the dot from the debuff is the lethal part.
  • Utility
    • You should purge Ice Shield off all the mobs in the first boss area, especially off the Primal Juggernaut and Defiler Draghar.
    • You can purge Blaze of Glory from Primalist Flamedancers when they reach 1 HP to instantly cancel the effect. However, consider your group's HP. If an Inferno debuff is active, you might want a DPS to do it instead.
    • While fighting High Channeler Ryvati, you can purge the Primal Thunderclouds she spawns to reduce the size of her Tempest Stormshield.
    • Use Wind Rush Totem during boss fights and in places where you can't mount. Every second matters and your party always appreciates the extra movement speed.
    • Some noteworthy adds that should be stopped with Thunderstorm:
      • Flashfrost Earthshaper Tectonic Slam.
      • Flashfrost Chillweaver Ice Shield.
    • Important interrupts in this dungeon are:
      • Primalist Cinderweaver Cinderbolt.
      • Flame Channeler Flashfire.
      • Tempest Channeler Thunder Bolt.

Boss Tips

Leymor

  • Output Cds
    • Use your cooldowns to quickly top off your group after Explosive Brand so they are prepared for the incoming Consuming Stomp.
  • Personal/External
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield when Explosive Brand expires.
    • Always use Astral Shift or one of your defensive on-use items for each Consuming Stomp.
    • If a tree gets consumed by Consuming Stomp, make sure to additionally use Earth Elemental and enter Ghost Wolf for the 20% damage reduction from Spirit Wolf. (Don't forget that this slowly stacks up.) Otherwise, you would just die through your normal defensives.

Azureblade

  • Output Cds
    • Use your cooldowns together with Cloudburst Totem separately during the intermission, as constant high HPS is required for an extended period.
    • Ensure that you place your Healing Rain between the intermission adds, making your Acid Rain deal more damage.
    • Use Spiritwalker's Grace during the intermission, allowing you to cast while moving, making it a lot easier to heal while dodging Ancient Orb Fragment from the boss.
  • Personal/External
    • Rotate through your defensive arsenal during the intermission, as you don't need them for anything else in this fight, making the intermission easier to get through.

Telash Greywing

  • Output Cds

    • Don't hesitate to use Spirit Link Totem for Absolute Zero, providing a 10% damage reduction to your party.

    • In this dungeon, you spend most of your time damaging. Ensure you place Healing Rain on as many mobs as you can for Acid Rain.
  • Personal/External
    • When targeted by Shoulder Slam, you must use either a defensive ability or an on-use defensive item.
  • Utility
    • Use Wind Rush Totem during boss fights and in places where you can't mount. Every second matters and your party always appreciates the extra movement speed
    • Some noteworthy adds that should be stopped:

  • Personal/External
    • Rotate through Astral Shift and your defensive on-use trinket to survive Shards of Stone. Since it has around a 30-second cooldown, you need to make use of your entire defensive arsenal.
    • You can use Spirit Wolf for each set if necessary.
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active for each Shards of Stone.

The Raging Tempest

  • Output Cds
    • Use your cooldowns for Electrical Storm, as this is the most deadly part of the encounter.
    • Cloudburst Totem is very important here as it provides a big heal towards the end of Electrical Storm once your initial cooldowns have expired.
    • Placing Healing Rain right under the boss allows you and your party to get hit by it during this encounter while still being spread around the boss, making full use of the Deluge talent.
  • Personal/External
    • Rotate your defensives on Lightning Strike. Also, make sure to have both Fade and Protective Light active.
    • Ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active during Electrical Storm.

Teera and Maruuk

  • Output Cds
    • Rotate through Ascendance, Ancestral Guidance] and [wow-spell id=108280]Healing Tide Totem separately to quickly top off people after Gale Arrow, as Teera rapidly starts to use Quick Shot again!
  • Personal/External
    • Rotate your defensives every time Gale Arrow happens.
    • Be aware of getting hit by Quick Shot back to back. Be sure to use either a Healthstone or a Potion of Withering Dreams if this happens.
    • Ensure that you keep up Ancestral Vigor on your party and Earth Shield on yourself and the weakest DPS player, as the tank doesn't need it here.

Balakar Khan

  • General Tips
    • In Phase 2, always dispel Conductive Strike from your tank as your highest priority!
  • Output Cds
    • Use Ascendance,Ancestral Guidance and Healing Tide Totem spread out during the intermission, as it demands extremely high HPS for a long time.
    • Do not hesitate to use either a Healthstone or a Potion of Withering Dreams during the intermission. Make sure your group has the same mindset here.
    • Do not hesitate to use Spirit Link Totem to keep your group alive.
  • Personal/External
    • In Phase 1 when Upheaval occurs ensure that you keep up Ancestral Vigor on your party and Earth Shield active.
    • When you are targeted by Iron Spear, use a defensive and have Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active.
    • For higher keys, you can use Spirit Wolf to survive this mechanic.
    • In Phase 3, when Crackling Upheaval happens, ensure that you have both Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield active, and use an additional defensive on top of that.
    • When targeted by Static Spear, use a defensive together with Ancestral Vigor and Earth Shield, as this mechanic is likely to kill you. If you get targeted multiple times, you need to be combat resurrected.
    • Playing with the Spirit Wolf talent helps you survive every Static Spear if you follow the advice above.

Trash Tips

  • Output Cds
    • Ensure that you are using your output cooldowns when fighting Nokhud Warspears and Longbows in Granyth's area, as they deal significant group damage.
  • Personal/External
    • Rotate your defensives without hesitation while fighting Nokhud Warspears and Longbows, as it is easy to be overwhelmed by their attacks.
    • Use your Astral Shift or one of your defensive items when targeted by Chain Lightning from a Primalist Thunderbeast.
    • When Totemic Overload is happening and you are not at 100% HP, use a defensive without hesitation.
    • If you are not at full health when Shatter Soul occurs, use a defensive ability immediately.
  • Utility
    • On Granyth you can use your‍Hexon the adds that the boss spawns so you don't have to kill them, but you have to keep the target in Hex throughout the fight. Otherwise, the add continues running to the ballista and cast their‍Dismantlespell. The best thing to do is to use Hexonce the boss is low, you can only do 3 in a row before the previous adds become a problem.
    • Use Wind Rush Totem during boss fights and in places where you can't mount. Every second matters and your party always appreciates the extra movement speed.
    • You can use your Purge on Stormshield from the Primal Stormshields in the second boss area.
    • You can use Purge on Swift Wind if it goes through in the third boss area.
    • This Dungeon has a lot of mobs that need to be stopped to prevent casts that can wipe the group so make sure to use Thunderstorm and Capacitor Totem to stop these enemies:
      • Nokhud Hornsounder Rally the Clan.
      • Nokhud Beastmaster Hunt Prey.
      • Desecrated Ohuna Rotting Wind.
      • Risen Mystic Swift Wind.

Bromach

  • Output Cds

    • Don't forget to combine your cooldowns with Cloudburst Totem during Quaking Totems.
  • Personal/External
    • Rotate your defensives whenever a Quaking Totem is active, as it is the only damage event in this encounter.

Sentinel Talondras

  • Output Cds
    • Rotate through Ascendance, Ancestral Guidance and Healing Tide Totem separately to heal through Earthen Shards.

      • Stonevault Geomancer Chain Lightning.
      • Earthen Weaver Hail of Stone.
      • Earthen Warder Curse of Stone.

    • You can use Earthgrab Totem to root the Spiteful Shade for a short period or slow them with Earthbind Totem
  • Bursting

    • Ensure that you also use Purify Spirit on cooldown.

Stat Priority

Patch 11.0 - The War Within

Restoration Shaman

Understand your secondary stat priority and the tertiary stats needed for optimal performance during Mythic+ Dungeons as a Restoration Shaman. For more detailed information, visit theStats and Attributesguide.

The conclusion here is that you want to equip the highest item level generally.

  • Blizzard introduced Stat DRs that you need to be aware of. To get to know what those are and why you have to care about them click here to get to our detailed stat DR resource post!

Tertiary

  • Avoidance - Reduces damage taken from AoE effects.
  • Leech - Returns a portion of your damage and healing done as healing to you. (Excludes self healing)
  • Speed - increases movement speed. (Does stack with other movement speed abilities)

The only time you should think about picking a lower item level is if it has Leech or Avoidance. Speed is nice to have, but you should generally ignore that stat g between two items.

  • Here is a showcase of how powerful Leech is for a Healer:

Farmable Alternatives

Due to the way stat weights work for Restoration Shaman, there isn't a strict best-in-slot list. Although it is theoretically possible to obtain items with all the correct Tertiaries, doing so requires extraordinary luck or several human lifespans because of the weekly reset system in World of Warcraft.

Authors Note:

This list shows the best items for healing in dungeons from all sources. Keep in mind that getting different tier pieces with Leech / Avoidance changes which off-piece is best for you. Likewise, any other non-trinket item with Leech / Avoidance replaces the one suggested here.

Below you are presented a good list of farmable alternatives that are obtainable outside of WoW’s weekly lockout system. While replaced in time as you progress, these offer immediate character power.

Trinkets

Trinkets come in two varieties: active and passive. Active trinkets require manual activation and inherit a cooldown providing a temporary boost to your output. On the other hand, passive trinkets provide a more consistent boost to your stats and abilities without requiring any actions.

Active Trinket alternatives

  • Belor'relos, the Suncaller
    • Strong on-use burst damage, good in dungeons like Brackenhide hollow

Passive Trinket alternatives

  • Ominous Chromatic Essence
    • Better or worse depending on how many people in your group are using it.
  • Whispering Incarnate Icon
    • Better or worse depending on how many people in your group are using it.
  • Screaming Black Dragonscale
    • Strong stat stick, equip this if your group doesn't have either of the other 2 passive alternatives.

Races

Patch 11.0 - The War Within

Restoration Shaman

For min-maxing a Restoration Shaman in Mythic+ Dungeons, different racial traits can provide a tremendous benefit to your characters. If this is not your top goal, picking a race that fits your style works just as well.

  • Stoneform -- Dwarf
    • Removes all magic, bleed, poison, and disease effects and reduces physical damage taken
    • Use-cases:
      • Bursting stacks.
      • Splinterbark on Overgrown Ancient (Algeth'ar Academy).
      • Deep Chill from Glacial Proto-Dragons (Halls of Infusion).
      • Withering from Fetid Rotsingers and Brackenhide Shapers (Brackenhide Hollow).
      • Earthen Shards from Sentinel Talondras (Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr).
      • Stolen Time from Infinite Timereavers (Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr).
      • Dragon Strike from Chargath (Neltharus).
      • Bold Ambush from Qalashi Hunters (Neltharus).
  • Rocket Jump -- Goblin
    • Do a small jump in the direction your character is facing.
    • While you're in the Rocket Jump animation you are placed on a global cooldown until your character lands.

Recommendation:

It is highly recommended to play a Dwarf this season! The higher the keys you run, the more essential Stoneform becomes in certain dungeons, such as Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr and others.
