feel a little better about it. you know that they are taking action. >> the new report from the district is scheduled to be officially presented at the next school board meeting on wednesday. >> a political organization that led to the recall of three san francisco school board members back in 2022 has been dissolved. sf guardians announced today it's shutting down due to a lack of funding. co-founder siva raj posted a statement on social media saying, i've asked our lawyers to dissolve the pac and 500 and 1c4 that are our legal arms for a while now. our expenses, which is nearly all just the legal and compliance fees, have been running ahead of our donation income since the 2022 recall of the school board members. as the guardians has also supported putting algebra one back into middle schools. >> the opioid epidemic in america is leading to tens of thousands of overdose deaths every year. and this week has been designated as overdose awareness week in san francisco. public health officials are trying a multi-pronged approach to address the crisis as

overdose deaths, fueled by the use of fentanyl have really skyrocketed here in recent years. earlier this year, the city's department of public health launched an outreach program to help drug users on the street get access to prescriptions for addiction treatment, medication, peer educators, navigators meet with people on the street, ask them whether they are interested in receiving treatment and connecting them in that moment. >> in the evening to an addiction medicine specialist so that people can get medication and get other help. they need when they want it. >> doctor hilary coonan says since march, the program has facilitated more than 1000 telehealth visits for drug users, with many of them entering treatment. >> coming up, oakland's annual lgbtq plus festival is returning this year's theme, coming up, also a first in the nation in san francisco, the new garbage truck taking a trip into the

taking place sunday, september 8th from 11 to 6 p.m. in uptown oakland. rap artist da brat and international trans singer wendy guevara are expected to perform. the festival will also feature more than 140 vendors and a designated area for families. >> san francisco recology customers may be getting a glimpse of the future. >> this new garbage truck looks like your average truck, but it's actually cleaner and quieter. >> as ktvu christian captain reports tonight, the recycling company is now the first in the nation to pilot a hydrogen powered garbage truck on city streets. >> well, this truck may look like other trucks, but it's powered by hydrogen, which means it's quieter and cleaner than other trucks. and it might just be a look at what the fleet of the future looks like. it's a weekly ritual. residents take out their recycling trash and compost, and the recology truck comes rumbling by to pick it up. but not this truck. recology is testing a first in north america refuse truck powered by
10:47 pm
hydrogen. the hydrogen powers a battery that powers the truck. what that means is a quieter ride, and the only thing that comes out of the tailpipe is water vapor. recology ceo sal coniglio says the company is already pushing for a greener fleet, and this test is part of the push to get to a zero emissions fleet by 2042. >> typically today, our trucks are our diesel trucks where we're running renewable renewable diesel, which is a non-fossil fuel product, but there is some emissions. we're running compressed natural gas and lng, which those are all combustion engines. this is no combustion. >> the truck has already been rolling through the streets of san francisco's west side, collecting, recycling, compost and trash. recology says the company wants to see how it performs and how hydrogen powered trucks can be integrated into the fleet. each truck costs about $1 million, or double the cost of a standard truck. so at this time, there's no word on when recology could start buying them and having them out on the streets. pepe andrade has worked for recology for seven years and

has test driven the truck on his route. >> we've been test driving it for the last week on route, picking up garbage, picking up compost, picking up recycling. and it's outperformed some of the cng trucks that we have. the acceleration. it's quiet as you can tell it's on right now. >> drivers tell me that on a standard collection vehicle, they have to fill it up every day. they've been driving this one for three days, and it still has a quarter tank of hydrogen and a full battery. neighbors in the city's sunset district noticed something new about this truck, and when they learned that it was hydrogen powered, liked what they heard, or in this case, didn't hear. the environment is hugely important. >> it being quiet is like a nice now, but it being energy efficient is nice for the future. yeah. i mean, i haven't even heard about this project, so now i'm interested in going and reading more about it. >> well, this pilot program runs for another three and a half weeks here in the city. then this vehicle will be collecting refuse up and down the peninsula and other cities around california later this year. christien kafton, ktvu, fox two

news. >> train enthusiasts have a chance to own a piece of bay area railroad history. 20 gently used f 40 diesel locomotives are up for sale on caltrans online store. these locomotives were recently decommissioned after more than 40 years of service as the transit agency rolled out its new electric fleet. caltrans says they each weigh just about 135 tons. >> a lot of logistics to work out, you know, for anyone interested. i think the best thing to do is head over to caltrans store.com. you know, say you're interested, we'll be reaching out to you. and if we can find a way to make this work and get a locomotive on your front lawn, that's what we're going to do. >> caltrans says about 100 people have actually expressed interest so far. those locomotives officially go on sale in october. >> okay. the fog coming back in. it went away for a time this afternoon. came back, went away, came back. now it's very dense along the coast. and as you look at the sutro tower shot over san francisco, you can see the fog shallow, right? because it's
10:50 pm
well below the camera on the tower. it's under 1000ft. so it's not going to get very far inland. and that's what the plan is this, this forecast for the next 24 to 36 hours is this compressed inversion, which is what we just showed you. that was it live. that's this is the actual dynamics of it. the high builds in and it presses down and that fog gets trapped right out at the coast, and you get temperatures inland that look like these pretty, pretty warm to hot. 94 in fairfield, 94 in antioch, 93 in vallejo, 94 in concord. those were the highs today. tomorrow is going to be a little more compression, just a touch more. and temperatures are going to go up a couple of degrees. so we'll be into the mid 90s, upper 90s, maybe a low 100 tomorrow. and then that's it. temperatures on wednesday kind of flatten out. cool a little bit thursday cool a little bit. and then friday, saturday and sunday cool a lot. so we're kind of doing a roller coaster. we get the heat which is happening now. and it's not an extreme heat event. it's not a super high fire danger. it's not record event, but it's heat.
10:51 pm
and then we're going to dip out. you'll see in the five day forecast as we go into friday, saturday and sunday. so this low is what brought the rain and the cool weather really the last couple of weeks this high is now going to is now has been replacing itself which makes sense. the low comes in the low leaves, the high builds in the high leaves. the low builds in. and that's what's going to happen. it's progression will continue. so monday through wednesday this guy owns and then it moves out. and then another low moves in. and this low. this is on monday morning. but you can see the trough. this is the model. so i just wanted you to see what the computer model is saying for this later in the weekend and late early next week. we've got this trough that's the low. so it's just a progressive pattern. low came through over the weekend. cool high builds in now. warm low comes in later on this week and we go back to mild weather. not quite as cool or as certainly as wet as it was. there's a system up here and that's extratropical, so we're seeing
10:52 pm
rain and even snow up in the areas up in northern canada or southern canada, pardon me. and then scattered showers in the cascades. forecast for tomorrow will be a lot like today, but warmer temperatures still pretty warm in fairfield right now. 80 degrees, seven degrees warmer than it was last night. at this time. so you might be noticing it with the air conditioners kicking on in the shallow inversion one more time. the forecast for the fog pretty light tomorrow morning, right along the coast. these are the forecast highs, which will be warmer than they were today. and then the five day forecast will creep it in here. and then watch sunday to cools off a little bit more. so temperatures trending down at the weekend. >> thank you bill. well one of the world's best known artists will no longer perform at next month's dreamforce in san francisco. elton john was slated to sing at the event's benefit concert, dream fest dreamforce. organizers announced the 77 year old will not be able to perform due to unforeseen circ*mstances. this would have been the rock and roll hall of fame artist's
